As
the firm's medical administrator, it is my job to understand and
evaluate the medical effects of your burn injury. Our main concern
is to make sure that our clients get the best possible medical
care.
Steinbrecher & Associates work closely with
doctors who specialize in severe burn injuries. Whether your burns
are from chemical, fire or electrical contact, we have the resources
to have our client evaluated by doctors specializing
in severe burn injuries. These specialists include: vascular surgeons,
plastic surgeons, psychiatrists and pain management specialists.
Burns can range from the less severe first
degree burn to the very severe third degree burn.
- First degree burns are characterized by
the blistering of the top layer of skin called the dermis
- Second Degree burns involve the dermis plus the next layer of skin,
the epidermis, are involved. There are visible blisters and the skin can
be burned away as well.
- Third Degree burns involve all layers of the skin that are burned away, and in
very serious cases may even involve the layer of fat.
Depending on the degree of the burn, the
area may require skin grafting. Skin grafts are taken from the thigh or the back.
Should the burns be too extensive, donor tissue may be used. This is called allografting.
Scarring is a major psychological obstacle to overcome for the
burn patient. Our
team is here not only to prepare your case for trial, but
also to help you prepare to return to the fullest life possible.
Contact us,
and we can discuss your medical and legal situation. In the meantime,
there are a great many quality burn
injury resources available on-line. There are sites that discuss
in great detail what has happened to you, and what the future
might hold. There are support groups, not just for you, but for
your family and loved ones too, to help them deal with the changes
that occur as a result of this injury.
